Structural reliability targets for existing structures
The constraints faced by civil infrastructure managers have prompted innovative reliability optimisation approaches to minimise life cycle costs.
This minimisation has been largely applied at design stage where information about the structure is limited. When conducting structural assessment, information on actual loads and material resistance is generated from structural health monitoring (SHM) and can be used to have an accurate state of the structure. This research makes use SHM and social economic consideration to develop reliability targets that can then be used as basis for maintenance decisions.
